From exactly the same position as the previous image, looking east to the North Sea at Mavis Grind, Shetland
Mavis Grind (derived from Old Norse: gate of the narrow isthmus) may be the only place in the United Kingdom where it is possible to throw a stone from the North Sea to the Atlantic Ocean. Until as recently as the 1950s boats were regularly hauled across this short cut to avoid the dangerous sail around the north of Shetland.
