The Broch of Gurness, an Iron-Age stone defensive tower, with its surrounding village, West Mainland, Orkney
The Broch of Gurness is an Iron-Age fortified stone tower, some 2000 years old, on the shore of Eynhallow Sound, West Mainland, Orkney. Brochs in other parts of Scotland are usually isolated structures, but this broch is typical of those on Orkney, in that it is surrounded by a sizeable village.
