Red Squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) in snow, Badenoch & Strathspey, Scottish Highlands
Britain's native Red Squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) which is declining severely or has disappeared from its old locations in England because of competition from the alien north American Grey Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) and the disease (squirrel pox) that the Grey Squirrel carries. Squirrel pox is fatal to Red Squirrels but benign to Grey Squirrels.
