Cleistogamous flower and leaves of Wood Sorrel (Oxalis acetosella), Carrbridge, Scottish Highlands
Cleistogamous flowers are produced later in the flowering season. They do not open but self-pollinate and are responsible for the majority of the seed production by the plant. However Wood Sorrel normally reproduces vegetatively, by spreading rhizomes.
