Water-filled rift in Thingvellir National Park, south-west Iceland
Thingvellir National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has historic as well as geographical significance. Here the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet and are moving away from each other, creating a depression or graben inbetween, which is filled by Thingvallavatn, Iceland's largest natural lake.
