The choir of 13th century Elgin Cathedral from the south, Moray, Scotland
Elgin Cathedral (of the Holy Trinity) is a pre-reformation church that was dedicated on July 19 1224. It was seriously damaged by fire in 1270, 1390 (when attacked by the Wolf of Badenoch) and 1402. The Reformation caused it to be abandoned in 1560 and it rapidly fell into ruin. It is sometimes known as the Lantern of the North.
