European Rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus), Moeraki Lodge, Moeraki River, West Coast, South Island, New Zealand
Rabbits were introduced deliberately to New Zealand during the 19th Century, and soon became a major agricultural pest. Stoats, weasels and ferrets were then introduced in an attempt to control them, but this was not only a failure but also had a disastrous effect on native New Zealand animals, one that is ongoing to this day.
