*** CATEGORY WINNER IN BIRD PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR 2019 ***
Welcome to my gallery of award-winning and exhibited images. Despite photographing seriously and successfully for many years, it was only late in 2015 that I decided to enter a few of the major national or international competitions for a bit of fun. Thus far I have entered just a couple of handfuls, most notably Bird Photographer of the Year. In 2016 I had one image shortlisted in this competition, and two shortlisted in 2017. In 2018 there were nearly 9,600 entries to BPOTY, but somehow I managed to have four shortlisted and nine commended. The final results were announced in August 2018, and I was delighted that my Planet Adelie One won the Bronze Award in the Creative Imagery category. I had four images shortlisted again in the 2019 competition, which received 13,500 entries from 63 countries. The results were announced at Birdfair on August 17 2019. One Emperor Penguin image (Fur Coats) was commended, and I was delighted that another, with its accompanying short piece of prose, won the Inspirational Encounters category. You can read the text on my blog titled Category Winner in BPOTY 2019! Also in 2019, one of my images made it through to final round of judging (equivalent, I guess, to shortlisting) in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year. Relatively recently my young Chacma Baboon image reached the final round of judging in the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards 2020, and is now a greetings card published by Camden Graphics. In the British Wildlife Photography Awards 2016 four images of mine were shortlisted (one in each of four different categories) and after final judging one image was awarded Highly Commended in the Close to Nature category. I had three images shortlisted in the Scottish Nature Photography Awards 2016, and one in 2018. The judges of Landscape Photographer of the Year 2016 obviously did not like my rather off-the-wall take on landscapes, and I have not entered again! The only competitions I have entered since 2020 are two comedy competitions in 2022. I am pleased to show here my headless penguin image, entitled Keep Calm and Keep Your Head, which was Highly Commended in the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards 2022.
Below are the award-winning images, together with those I have exhibited in Agora Gallery, New York. Please contact me if you would like to buy any of these images.
