It is the morning of January 1 2022 and my winter 2021/2022 Sparrowhawk was sitting in the Lilac tree when I got up. This bird is a male in adult plumage, and I am pretty sure is the same one that frequented the garden last winter, when it was still a juvenile (see my previous blog of March 30 2021). It disappeared early last April, reappearing late in November. Where do non-breeding birds go to through the warmer months of the year, even if there is still plenty of suitable prey in the garden? I don't imagine there can be easier hunting elsewhere.
