Male Black Grouse (Lyrurus (Tetrao) tetrix) on the lek, Royal Deeside, Scotland
Male Black Grouse are also known as Blackcocks. In the spring they accumulate before dawn in traditional lekking areas to strut, display and fight while producing distinctive calls. Females are attracted to the lek and mate with the victor.
