Piel Castle (also known as Fouldry Castle or the Pile of Fouldray) was built in the 14th Century by the Abbot of Furness as a defence for Barrow-in-Furness. A huge keep, inner and outer baileys, and a curtain wall with towers are all still standing, though parts of the castle have been lost to erosion by the sea.
