Kendal Castle was built early in the thirteenth century on a glacial drumlin to the east of the river Kent by Gilbert fitz Roger fitz Reinfried, Sheriff of Lancaster. It is best-known as being the family home of Katherine Parr, the sixth and final wife of Henry VIII.
