Dehesa is the Spanish name for the orchard-like wood pasture created by clearing the original native forests and preserving, in varying density, useful species such as cork oaks. The pasture underneath and between the trees is grazed by a variety of domesticated stock, such as cattle, pigs and goats. Dehesas are virtually restricted to western parts of Andalusia, Extremadura and adjacent Portugal.
