Queen Charlotte Sound was officially changed to Queen Charlotte Sound / Tōtaranui in 2014. The great majority of the woodland on the slopes lining the Sound is secondary, having developed since the abandonment of agricultural use. In this image the bright green vegetation is tree ferns.
