Dracophyllum (Dragon Leaf) dominated shrub vegetation with poisoned exotic wilding pines and Mountain Beech (Tawhairauriki) (Nothofagus solandri var cliffortioides) (Fuscospora cliffortioides) forested slopes, Craigieburn Forest Park, Arthur's Pass, Canterbury, South Island, New Zealand
Maori name is Tawhairauriki. The pine trees are old experimental plots that have now been poisoned to prevent their self-sown offspring (wildings) invading and downgrading native vegetation. Some living wildings can be seen in the foreground Dracophyllum scrub on these images. Mountain Beech dominates the slopes with alpine scrub and tussock grassland above.
