Female Banded Dotterel (Charadrius bicinctus bicinctus) on the nest, Okarito, West Coast, South Island, New Zealand
Also known as Double-Banded Plover and as Pohowera in Maori. A threatened endemic native breeding species, with a small proportion of its population overwintering in Australia. This pair is nesting on the beach, but the majority of the population breeds by braided rivers.
