The Bara people are one of 18 ethnic groups in Madagascar, originate from Bantu people, and are the principal zebu-herding clan of Madagascar; Isalo lies within their Toliara Province. The Bara entomb their dead in natural caves, particularly in Isalo National Park, which they consider sacred; they have buried their dead in the caves here for hundreds of years.
