The Old Cataract Hotel at Aswan has been described as one of the 10 best hotels in the world. Opened in 1899, its elegant architectural style is a mixture of Moorish and Edwardian. Previous guests include Field Marshal Rommel, Winston Churchill and King Farouk, but it is probably best known for Agatha Christie, who wrote part of Death On The Nile while stayng here.
