The marble quarry and settlement for forty Scottish miners at Blomstrandhalvoya were established in 1911 by explorer and engineer Ernest Richard Mansfield (1862-1924) on behalf of his company, the Northern Exploration Co. Ltd. of London. The marble proved to be unsuitable for extraction and shipping and the whole venture was a fiasco.
