Female Grey Phalarope (Red Phalarope) (Phalaropus fulicarius) taking off from the surface of water, with floating kelp
Called a Grey Phalarope in Britain, where it is a winter visitor in grey non-breeding plumage, and a Red Phalarope in Svalbard, where it is red in breeding plumage. The female is more brightly coloured than the male, which incubates the eggs.
