Known as Popokotea in Maori, the Whitehead is common throughout its New Zealand North Island Range. It is one of three endemic New Zealand Creepers. The Yellowhead (Mohoua ochrocephala) is its South Island counterpart. Their distributions do not overlap (known as allopatric or sympatric distributions).
