Typical Antandroy (Tandroy) houses in a village near Berenty, Anosy Region, Madagascar
The Antandroy are an ethnic group of people who inhabit the the dry south of Madagascar (Androy). They are principally Zebu cattle herders, though a fady (taboo) prohibits the women from milking the cows. Their houses traditionally have no windows and feature three wooden doors: the front door is the women's entrance, the door at the rear of the house is for children, and the third door is used by the men.
