The Generalife was built during the reign of Muhammad III (1302-1309) as the private summer palace and country estate of the Nasrid kings. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The name derives from the arabic Jannat al-Arif, meaning Garden of Arif or Garden of the Architect.
