This individual had been seen being kicked by a Zebra at least 2 weeks previously, and had been unable to bear weight on its left foreleg since, probably due to either a fractured humerus or radial nerve paralysis. So it is not surprising that it was running as fast as it could manage on three legs to get through the group of zebras. Remarkably, despite its severe impediment, it had managed to avoid being killed by lions.
