This whole encounter lasted just 9 seconds. The Agouti raced across the track in front on my stationary vehicle, belly-flopped into the water, stayed there for less than 3 seconds, then ran at top speed back across in front of the vehicle in the direction from which it came. Wild Agoutis are said to be very timid and will flee and hide when humans approach, and make little barks when alarmed. This does not appear to have been the cause of this animal's behaviour: see image 10. Not much is known about Azara's Agouti.
