Common (European) Toads (Bufo bufo) in amplexus heading towards water to breed, Badenoch & Strathspey, Scottish Highlands: image of both toads very sharp as far back as the male's left elbow
Aplexus is the term used to describe the reproductive behaviour where the male climbs on the female's back and grips under her armpits tightly, holding on for several days until she lays her eggs. He then fertilizes the eggs with his sperm as these are released.
